Reference
SC 8/319/E415
Date
[c. 1319]
Description
Petitioners
Tenants of Bowden, Malcoff, Milton, Whitehough, Buxworth, Hayfeld in the Peak.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The tenants held the waste called 'Maynestonesfeld' in the Peak from the time of Henry III for pasture rendering 11½ marks per annum, but now the king has arrented 134 acres to various people by which the petitioners are impoverished. They request that the king allow them to hold the waste entirely as accustomed paying 12½ marks annually, or that he will reduce their farm proportionately to the acres arrented.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.
Places mentioned
Boudon (Bowden Hall), [Derbyshire]
Malcoff, [Derbyshire]
Milneton (Chapel Milton), [Derbyshire]
Whitehough, [Derbyshire]
Buggesworth (Buxworth), [Derbyshire]
Hayfield, [Derbyshire]
The Peak, [Derbyshire]
Maynestonsfeld (Mainstone), [Derbyshire].
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1319 as the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer were ordered to cause the queen to have the fines made for entry by the tenants on this waste and others in the High Peak on 12 July in 1319, and it seems unlikely that the petition can be too distant in date from this (CCR 1318-23, p.148).
