Description
Petitioners
John Spark.
Name(s)
Spark, John
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Scarborough, [North Riding of Yorkshire]
York
Holderness [East Riding of Yorkshire].
Nature of request
Spark requests for the great loss that he suffered in the castle of Berwick that he be granted the constabulary of the castle of Scarborough for the term of his life, or honourable sustenance in the abbey of St Mary, York for him, a servant, horse and his wife and one of his daughters, and the sustenance of two sisters in the house of St Leonard, York, or the office of coroner in Holderness without paying the sheriff or bailiffs anything.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1318 as it appears to be after the fall of Berwick to the Scots. An entry in the Fine rolls dating to August 1319 appears to be alternative provision being made for the petitioner, though whether it was in response to this petition is not clear (CFR 1319-27, p.3).
