Reference
SC 8/319/E393
Date
[c. 1318]
Description
Petitioners
Liege people who were burgesses of Berwick.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The people request that they can freely reside in England and trade without arrest or attachment of them or their goods, and that their children be released from prison, for their bodies will be ready at the king's pleasure.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.
Places mentioned
Berwick-upon-Tweed, [Northumberland].
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1318 as the petition clearly postdates the fall of Berwick to the Scots. It is likely that the petition is contemporary with a petition on the same matter by another former burgess of Berwick, SC 8/319/E412, which appears to date to early 1319.
