Nature of request
Cestre requests that he be granted the office of clerk of the Exchange of the Tower of London and of the palace of Westminster, or clerk of the maltolt of London and of the palace for the term of his life, the king having promised him a pension at this parliament. Cestre has served the king's father in the wars of Scotland and Flanders and in the siege of the town of Berwick, and now in the siege of the castle of the town and has been captured twice and ransomed and has lost his horses and sold his lands in the king's service and has nothing to live on.

Note
The petition is dated to c. 1318 as it refers to the seige of Berwick and the current siege of the castle of Berwick, they falling in that year. It is possible that this petition is part of the group of petitions that formed an original file at the end of file 318 dating to 1318-1319.
