Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/319/E362
Date
[c. 1318]
Description
Petitioners
Agnes de Walton, widow of John de Walton.
Name(s)
de Walton, Agnes
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Walton requests that the king will grant her sustenance in a priory or abbey as her husband long served the king and his father in the wars in Wales and Scotland, and he was killed when Berwick fell because he did not wish to flee the town, and the enemy took what she had and bills of the arrears of her late husband's arrears of wages.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et consilio.
Places mentioned
Wales
Scotland
Berwick-upon-Tweed, [Northumberland].
People mentioned
John de Walton, sergeant of the king and late husband of the petitioner.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1318 as it seems that it is a petition by the petitioner following her husband's death at Berwick, and that the subsequent request by the king to the archbishop of York to admit the petitioner to the hospital of St Mary Magdalene, Ripon was in a response to a later more specific request of the petitioner (SC 8/152/7560; CCR 1318-23, p.349). It is possible that his petition is part of an original file of 1318-1319 continuing from petitions at the end of file 318.
