Reference
SC 8/318/E312
Date
[1312-1313]
Description
Petitioners
Collard de Renty.
Name(s)
de Renty, Collard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Renty requests that the king and council will be advised upon the abbot and convents refusal to receive him for his sustenance though they have been twice ordered to do so by writ as this overrides the liberty of the king in right to advance his servants.
Nature of endorsement
Given at Westminster on the 24 [day of . . .] in the 6th year [of the reign of King Edward] son of King Edward.
Places mentioned
Canterbury, [Kent].
People mentioned
Abbot and convent of Canterbury
Henry de M[Monte Pessulano].
Note
The petition is dated to 1312-1313 based on the now partly illegible dating in the response which is to 6 Edward [II]. In addition a Nicholas de Rency was sent to the abbot and convent of St Augustine on the 16 March 1312, and then sent to the abbey of Chester on 3 May 1313 (CCR 1307-13, pp.451, 580). It is not clear how this individual is related to the petitioner, he being the same person as the petitioner with an alternative name, or being a totally different person altogether. It seems rather more than coincidence that the two individuals both seem to be successors to the same individual - Henry de Monte Pessulano.
