Description
Petitioners
Philip de Meaux.
Name(s)
de Meaux, Philip
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Meaux states that his grandfather held the vill of Withernsea with a carucate in Owthorne with pasture in places called Engeland and Le Flat which he gave to the count of Aumale for a debt that he owed, to hold the same until the debt was paid. Meaux requests an enquiry into this as the count has levied the debt twice over, and if this is found to be the case then he requests remedy.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Withernsea, [Holderness, East Riding of Yorkshire]
Holderness, [East Riding of Yorkshire]
Owthorne, [East Riding of Yorkshire].
People mentioned
Piers de Meaux, grandfather of the petitioner
Count of Aumale.
Note
The petition is dated to 1307-1315 as the petition is clearly of the reign of Edward II as the petition refers to Henry III as the king's grandfather. It seems likely from the hand and the nature of the request that the petition belongs to the first part of the reign.
