Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/317/E282
Date
[c. 1314-c. 1322]
Description
Petitioners
Robert de Umframvill (Umfraville), Earl of Angus.
Name(s)
de Umframvill (Umfraville), Earl of Angus, Robert
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Scotland
Prudhoe, [Northumberland]
Scotland March
Nature of request
Umframvill requests that the king will ordain sustenance for his estate and for his castle of Prudhoe as his English and Scottish lands are entirely destroyed by the Scots. He further requests that the king command payment of the sum accounted for in the Wardrobe for the arrears of wages for his troops that he has retained in the Scottish March by covenants between the king and him or that assignment is made of lands where he is able to be paid.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1314-c. 1322 as the petition clearly refers to a time when English fortunes in Scotland and in northern England were not good. It is likely that the petition dates to later in this period, perhaps 1318 onwards, though munitioning Prudhoe castle was already presenting problems in 1315 [CPR 1313-17, pp.398-400].
