Note (Additional information about the record)
- The petition is dated to c. 1318 on the basis of the dating given on the guard that associates it with the dating of the remainder of this file. Fraser concurs with this dating, dating it to the period 1315-22, the time of Scottish incursions into northern England (Northumberland Petitions, p.118).The earl was making similar requests for religious houses in northern England in late 1318 [CPR 1317-21, pp.223, 252].
