Nature of request
[Petition in 2 parts:]1) The abbot and convent request remedy as they were granted free passage on the Ouse and Ure from York to Boroughbridge for all manner of ships and boats carrying their goods by the earl of Cornwall following a legal suit concerning their pre-existing prescriptive rights to the same, but after the earl's death the king's bailiffs at Boroughbridge and Knaresborough come and disturb them. The have been to the Exchequer but nothing has been done.2) They request confirmation of their charters.
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the first petition the justices of the Bench recorded that the king ordered them by his writ that they enquire upon certain articles concerning the water, and that they should certify the king etc., the taking of which inquisition is delayed as the justices are well certified fro the king, therefore they should wait etc.Concerning the confirmation of their charters they should go to the Exchequer and make a fine etc.
