Nature of request
Writ of Edward I to Despenser commanding him to enquire by the oaths of the foresters and verderers as well as by the oaths of law-worthy men of the truth of the claims by Welle, he having been granted the custody of the office of steward of the forest between the bridges of Oxford and Stamford, and the profits having been reduced because of a perambulation that disafforested areas so that he is now unable to answer wholly for his farm.
