Description

Name(s)
de Welle, Adam
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
[Petition in three parts:]1) Welle requests that the inquisitions that the justice of the Forest was commanded to make by writ of the king at the parliament of Lincoln into the decrease of the farm of the office of steward of the Forests and which is returned into the Wardrobe be viewed and allowance be made according to the perambulation made of the forests.2) Welle shows that, although the king commanded that the severing of the vill of Rockingham from the castle should not be allowed, and if it was assigned to the countess of Cornwall in dower, that then allowance would be made elsewhere and the vill returned to the king, but this has not been done to the king's damage.3) Welle requests that the king will ordain for the sustenance of the foresters as since the vills within the forest were put out of it by the perambulation they have nothing to sustain them.1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the first, the inquisition should be made to come.2) Concerning the second, that allowance ought to be made by the treasurer to the countess in lands elsewhere for the vill of Rockingham which is held in dower.3) To the third, nothing.4) The king enjoined the treasurer to examine the inquisition and he answered Welle that he would not make allowance as others were willing to give £80 per annum for the bailiwick notwithstanding the decline, and if he wishes to hold it for the farm he should hold it.
