Nature of request
The prior and convent request a writ to the constable of the castle of Rochester to examine by the oaths of law-worthy men whether a piece of land called 'Prestefeld' is held in free alms or as part of a lay fee, and whether they should contribute to the tallage because of it as the citizens and burgesses distrain them to contribute to the tallage and they believe they should be quit. If it is found that they should contribute then they wish that another inquisition be held to assess their contribution on the basis of the quantity of their land as they are assessed too highly.
