Reference
SC 8/313/E72
Date
[? 1302]
Description
Petitioners
Warden of the Hospital of St Katherine without the Tower, London.
Addressees
[None].
Nature of request
It is requested that the debt owed to the king from their lands in Kent for Cornhill that was to be paid in instalments of 13s per annum is still able to be paid just as before as Reading did not keep to these terms.
Nature of endorsement
They should wait upon this until the king is certified upon the other, and then let it be agreed for both of them.
Places mentioned
Kent.
People mentioned
Raymond de Cornhill
Walter de Redigg (Reading), late warden [of the hospital of St Katherine without the Tower].
Note
The petition is dated to? 1302 as the majority of petitions in this file probably date to this year. The previous warden of the hospital, Walter de Reading was appointed in 1293, and his successor occurs in 1306, but there is no reason to believe that Reading had not either been removed or died by 1302 especially as an enquiry was issued on 12 April 1300 to examine the dilapidations in the hospital during Reading's term as warden (CPR 1292-1301, pp.548-9).
