Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/312/E20
Date
[1280-1300]
Description
Petitioners
Henry de Gloucestre (Gloucester), son of William de Gloucester, late goldsmith of Henry III.
Name(s)
de Gloucestre (Gloucester), Henry
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Gloucestre requests that a writ of Chancery be directed to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer to receive him to make the account of his late father, and that he be allowed those things that ought to be allowed, and that until the making of the account he be allowed to go at peace. His father's account was to be made by his executors but was delayed by the death of Henry de Odrington by which Gloucestre is grievously distrained.
Nature of endorsement
To the Exchequer, and he should be heard and justice be done to him.
People mentioned
William de Gloucestre (Gloucester), late goldsmith of Henry III
Henry de Odrington, executor of William de Gloucester
Philip de Odrington, executor of William de Gloucester.
Note
The petition is dated to 1280-1300 on the basis of the hand. The guard note refers to a close roll reference of December 1272 which closely relates to the making of the account of the executors of the petitioner's father, but the hand for this petition seems too late for such an early date (). The guard note also suggests that the petition probably dates to 1295 rather than this early date, and although most of the petitions in this first half of the file seem to date to the 1290s, the exact reason for this date is unclear.
