[Petition in 3 parts:]1) Preston requests remedy as the sheriff of Northampton came to the manor of Gretton which he farms and took his mount and his plough beasts for a debt though he could have taken other beasts and goods which is against the statute and to his great damage.2) Preston requests remedy as the sheriff of Northamptonshire imprisoned him until he found mainpernors who undertook to have him at the Exchequer at a certain day, though Preston had had no summons.3) Preston requests remedy as the sheriff of Northampton came to the manor of Gretton which he holds of the king in fee farm and made to take all his plough beasts and other animals for the relief demanded by Fiennes for the fee that Preston held from him, though he could have found sufficient distresses in that fee.

The petition is dated to c. 1290-c. 1300 on the basis of the hand and in part on the dating suggestions given on the guard. As many of the other petitions around this petition in this file date to c. 1295, it is quite possible that it dates to this narrower date as is suggested on the guard.
