Description
Petitioners
Gilbert de Lindesey (Lindsey).
Name(s)
de Lindesey (Lindsey), Gilbert
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Lindesey requests remedy as while he was in the king's service in Wales with the earl of Hereford the sheriff of Huntingdon and his bailiffs came to his manor of Molesworth and took livestock for a debt due to a merchant against the king's protection causing him great loss.
Nature of endorsement
To the Exchequer.
Places mentioned
Wales
Molesworth, [Huntingdonshire].
People mentioned
[Humphrey de Bohun], Earl of Hereford
Hugh de Babington, sheriff of Huntingdon
Guyot Boneaventure, merchant.
Note
The petition is dated to 1289-1296 based on Babington's tenure of the office of sheriff of Huntingdon (List of Sheriffs, p.12). The guard note suggests that 1295 is perhaps the most likely date in this range presumably based on military activity in Wales.
