Nature of request
Writ of Richard II, dated 1 September in his 7th year [1383], to the sheriff of Yorkshire, upon the petition of King, Fitkyn and White requesting remedy because their three ships had been captured by the French and certain people taken hostage in exchange for the ships until ransom was paid, but then Titelot, Donne, Carter and Acklam captured the same three ships from them. Richard II wishes the sheriff of Yorkshire to cause Titelot, Donne, Carter and Acklam to appear before him in Chancery on the octave of Michaelmas next to answer in this matter.
Nature of endorsement
Sayvill responds that:1) for Titelot and Donne he ordered the return of this writ to Malton to whom execution against them belongs, but he did not respond;2) for Carter and Acklam he ordered another return to Ruston and Moresom to whom execution against them belongs, but they did not respond;3) Titelot, Donne, Carter and Acklam have nothing elsewhere than in the said two liberties by which they can be attached nor were they found in his bailiwick after the receipt of this writ.
