Nature of request
Order of the bishop of Winchester, dated at Calais on Michaelmas, that because the bearer requested presentation to the church of Babingley which is vacant, to determine if the church is taxed at 6 marks and 10s. as claimed and if so to make the presentment as requested. Also, if Colvill's diem clausit extremum is returned, that they do nothing until his return.

The order, and its related petition (SC 8/303/15147), probably date to c. 1360-1363, during the latter part of William Edington's chancellorship, after the death of Colvill (CIPM, vol. X, no. 655); the document provides evidence of Wollor, Brayton and Grimsby acting as keepers of the great seal (see also Tout, Chapters in the Administrative History of Medieval England, iii. 227-8).
