Nature of request
Fulbroke, Bourde, Somervyle, Berkelee, Hackeston, Piers, Wy... and Bo... state that certain ships of Bristol, including 'le Grace Dieux', 'Trinitee' and 'Gabriel', taken for the King's service in the 49th year of Edward III's reign [1375], captured Boreman in a barge of Normandy in the Scilly Isles, who offered 2000 francs for his ransom, and enemies of less value who offered 600 francs for their ransom, with Boreman pledging himself for the ransom of all. The captives were taken to Bristol, and on Monday before the Assumption Spicer was granted custody of Boreman in the Guildhall of Bristol before Frompton and others, but by Spicer's carelessness Boreman escaped with neither his ransom nor that of his fellows paid, and since then he has done great ill on the sea. Because Spicer is dead the petitioners request that his executors appear before the treasurer to show cause why they should not pay the money with damages.
