Nature of request
Middelton and Postilthwayt request that whereas the King on his last voyage into Wales gave to Butler and the 1000 archers of his company 1000 cattle which they then sold to the petitioners, who drove the cattle to Ludlow where, on Monday after All Saints last, Lyngeyn, Burley, Burley, Overton, Symkyn, Barber, Crypper, Brodley, Arys, Ferrour, Willes, Ludlow, Ferrour, Herdeley, Rodlowe, Barber, Hill, Hill, Herdeley, Moylle, Spicer, Brian, Cordwainer, Radnor and 200 men took the cattle with force and arms, assaulted the petitioners and drove them from the town, that a writ be directed to each man named above ordering him to appear before the King's council on the quinzaine of St Hilary next to answer for his actions, and that another writ be directed to the sheriff of Shropshire ordering him to deliver these writs to Lyngen and the others and to certify the day of delivery.
Nature of endorsement
On 18 November in the 3rd year [1401] the council (the chancellor, treasurer, keeper of the privy seal, Lord Berkeley, Prophet, Doreward, Curson and Frome) agreed that several writs should be made to Lyngen and others named within to appear before the council on the quinzaine of St Hilary next to answer touching the matter contained in this bill.
