Reference
SC 8/307/15332
Date
[1401]
Description
Petitioners
Maud Cifrewast.
Name(s)
Cifrewast, Maud
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
[Largely illegible.]The petitioner requests remedy regarding a grant of £4 made to her by the king on Good Friday last, of which she has only received 20s from the almoner, and for which she has no patent.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] This bill was granted [...] 1 April and delivered to the chancellor of England [...].
People mentioned
John Wolceley, late husband of the petitioner.
Note
Although now largely illegible, enough of this petition survives to link it with the grant to Maud (or Matilda) on 1 April 1401 (CPR 1399-1401, p.469). Enough text remains to associate it with the terms of the grant, and the date of 1 April corresponds with the date given in the partially-legible endorsement.
