Nature of request
The commons request that whereas at the Westminster Parliament of the 25th year of Edward III's reign [1351], a statute was ordained concerning which things should be called treason, that it now be ordained by statute that if any person is indicted on suspicion of high treason and committed to the King's prison and escapes that this should be considered treason, since no provision was previously made for such escapes. And the lords of the fee in such cases should have the escheats and forfeitures of lands and tenements of those thus attainted, as of those attainted of petty treason. And this statute should take effect from 20 October last until the next Parliament.
