Nature of request
The people of Dunwich, who paid £65 yearly for their fee farm until the 31st year of Edward III [1357] when the farm was reduced to £14 10s 9d because the town had been destroyed by a coastal storm, request that whereas their port's channel has often been changed by such storms and now runs adjacent to the town of Southwold, and recently the people of Southwold, by the assent of Robert, have taken the customs and impositions from vessels coming to the port, that the chancellor cause Robert to appear before him to explain why the King and people of Dunwich should be denied these profits or that the King take Dunwich into his hand forever and discharge the petitioners from their fee farm.
