The parson requests that Crulle be commanded to appear before the king under sufficient surety concerning the malicious actions that he has made against him and his church as Chydyok is dead and the bishop of Salisbury translated to Bath, they having made ordinances in favour of the petitioner.

The petition dates to 1388 as a memorandum recorded in the close rolls concerning the mainprise of Crulle not to procure any harm to the petitioner dates to 18 July 1388 (CCR 1385-9, p.601). In addition, the petition is addressed to the bishop of Ely as chancellor and Thomas Arundel, serving as chancellor from October 1386 to May 1389 became archbishop of York in 1388. Ralph Erghum was translated from Salisbury to Bath in April 1388.
