- The petition is dated to? c. 1396-? c 1398 on the basis of the guard note that links the dating to an unrelated reference to Thomas Wotton, one of the petitioners, dating to 1398, though there is an earlier reference probably to the same individual referred to in 1396 (Calendar of Letter-Books preserved among the Archives of the Corporation of the City of London at the Guildhall. Letter-Book H. Circa A.D. 1375-1399, ed. R.R. Sharpe (London, 1907), pp.424 & 431).
