The petition is dated to 1432-1434 in accordance with the dating given on the guard. This is based on the address of the petition to the bishop of Bath and Wells as chancellor, John Stafford when bishop serving as chancellor from 1432 to 1443 when he was elevated to Canterbury, though remaining as chancellor until 1450; and also on a reference to Richard de Rochefort as captain of the castle of Ham which he held c. 1434 (CPR 1429-36, p.342). It cannot be later than 12 July 1434 when Ham was granted to the duke of Bedford (Carte, vol. II, p.282)
