Prioress and convent of Minster in the Isle of Sheppey; Bartholomew Seint Legier (St Leger); William Cheyne (Cheyney).
Name(s)

Isle of Sheppey, Kent.
Nature of request
The prioress and convent, Seint Legier and Cheyne request that a commission be granted to them with power to take labourers to work on the recovery of their land that has been inundated by the sea.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
The petition is dated to? 1404 as it is likely to be a near contemporary of SC 8/301/15019 which is nearly identical to this petition but names three specific individuals to be assigned to the commission. That petition dates to 1404 as a commission was issued to those individuals on 28 November 1404 (CPR 1401-5, p.502). It seems unlikely that two near identical petitions would be submitted together, but it would seem likely that this petition was perhaps earlier though possibly of the same year, and was followed with the more specific petition which was answered by the assignment of the commission. The dates cannot be too dissimilar. In addition this petition must date to the period 1403-1406 as other petitions originally from Chancery Files 498 date to these years.
