Nature of request
Simon de Assheley states that he is on the point of being ruined by the false suggestion made in Chancery at the suit of one Coterell, the King's serjeant, which is part of a conspiracy between Coterell and John Went of King's Lynn, as Coterell has sent various people to Simon, telling him that if he releases to John all his actions of trespass, Coterell will pardon Simon 100s of the £10 which he expects to recover in Chancery by the suggestion he has made. Simon asks that that he might have common law.

Datable with reference to the Earl of Suffolk, Chancellor of England. Michael de la Pole was Chancellor between 13 March 1383 and 23 October 1386, and was created Earl of Suffolk 6 August 1385.CCR 1385-9, p.240 is dated 13 May 1387, and would seem to be from a later stage in this business.
