Nature of request
William de Wele and John de Mumby state that they and all the burgesses of Grimsby have from time immemorial had ships and boats to carry people and other things from Grimsby to Hull or elsewhere; but that since the Wednesday of the feast of Philip and James in the King's twenty-first year, John Pogg, Mayor of Grimsby, has conspired with others of the community of the town to set up a common ferry, which they have leased to William Bylyng at farm; and they have abolished all other boats, on pain of imprisonment and payment of a fine. They request a writ to the Mayor to come before the council on a certain day to answer on these matters.
