Nature of request
Writ from Edward III to the Sheriff of County Meath, stating that he has recently ratified and confirmed Thomas Bache's status as parson of the church of Kilberry, although he now understands from the information of Nicholas de Wotenhull, whom the Lieutenant has presented to that church, that Thomas had no title to that presentation, and that he has procured the ratification to deceive the King, and while a plea was pending in Ireland concerning the right of patronage to that church. He asks the Sheriff to instruct Thomas to appear before the King in Chancery in England one month after Michaelmas, to show any evidence he has for why this ratification should not be revoked, and to do and receive what the court decides.

Thomas Bache has been instructed to appear on the day contained in this writ, as the writ requires, by Richard Wythy, Richard Weston, John Mounteney and Adam Cotterell.This is the reply of John Fitz Richer, Sheriff of Meath in Ireland, by return of Adam Davy, Chief Sergeant of the same county.Whereupon the aforesaid Thomas Bache puts in his place Ralph de Pynyngton, clerk, to prosecute and defend the aforesaid case and to win or lose the same, as this writ requires.
