Chancellor.
Nature of request
John Palmer of Harwich states that on the Wednesday before the Trinity, in the King's forty-sixth year, William Hund of Zierikzee loaded into his ship at Manningtree seven pieces of woollen cloth, whereas he had only paid customs for three; and that Comenye de Cirice and John Gar did likewise, and that on the following Thursday John Mormaunt of Sudbury and a sailor belonging to the ship also loaded cloth into the same ship, for which customs had been paid only on part. Seeing this deceit he arrested the ship and also the merchandise within until the King's council had ordained their will on it, but Richard Balton, Bailiff of Harwich, beat and wounded him because he would not let it go.
