Nature of request
The petition states that Walter de Oxeburgh and John Ledecombe, cobblers, were asked to find security to keep the peace before Edmund Chelreye and his companions, Justices of the Peace in Oxfordshire and Berkshire, together with other malefactors from Abingdon, and that because of their rebellion and disobedience before these justices, they were thrown into prison in Oxford, from where they have now escaped, and are wandering with force and arms, boasting of their escape and threatening William de Shiltwode, William Catyn, and other servants of the Abbot of Abingdon. The petition asks that Edmund might be ordered to make his record, and to certify Chancery of the names of the rebels, and that such a remedy might be ordained as to serve as an example to others.
