Nature of request
Memorandum that a writ was sent to the Keepers of the Peace in Oxfordshire and Berkshire and to the sheriff of these counties to go to Abingdon, summon the community, and receive a security from them not to harm or molest the Abbot and monks of Abingdon, or their men or servants, and to arrest and imprison all those who refuse to give such a security; and that as a result of this, the Keepers of the Peace in Berkshire and others did this on the Wednesday after Michaelmas last, and list the names of those who gave security, and the names of those who refused to do so.

Note
Roger de Cotesford was sheriff of Oxfordshire and Berkshire between 20 November 1362 and 15 July 1365, and between 27 November 1368 and 5 November 1369. As those who refused to pay the security were given into his custody, this petition must date from one of these two periods.
