The Sire de Lesparre requests an allowance for the damages and expenses incurred by him when Richard de Preston, Mayor of Calais, and his men seized his horses and goods at sea and took them to Calais, where they wrongly withheld them, or permission to arrest the goods of the people of Calais to the sum of his damages and expenses. He asks the Chancellor to give his response to Thomlyn Grisele, bearer of this petition.

The order to restore the horses (m.22 of C 76/53, Carte, vol. II p. 102) is dated 17 May 44 Edward III (1370). This might be a response to the petition or, as the petition only mentions damages and expenses, with no mention of compensation for the horses, it might date from shortly after 17 May.
