Nature of request
Henry de Beaumont and Alice his wife state that John Comyn, late Earl of Buchan, held the manor of Whitwick in chief of the King and died seised of it, and that after his death it was taken into the King's hand because of the minority of Alice and Margaret, his heirs. One William de Boghan, John's brother, entered, claiming that John had enfeoffed him of this manor, but his claim was later found to be false and it was taken back into the King's hand, and given to Henry de Beaumont in wardship, and then given to him as part of Alice's share of the inheritance when she came of age, as she was then his wife. Margaret's share was also given to Henry and Alice and to their heirs, as she was living in Scotland, where she still lives. Now Hugh le Despenser the elder has sued a writ to arrest William de Boghan for a debt, and the Sheriff of Leicestershire has returned that William is dead. Henry and Alice request a writ to the justices and to the sheriff that Hugh should be given no seisin of the manor of Whitwick.
