Nature of request
Letter from the Mayor, bailiffs and community of Southampton to the Chancellor, stating that Gerard de Byole, burgess of Southampton is being distrained by the collectors of the 2s on each tun of wine to pay this custom, as they claim that he is an alien. They certify that he has been a burgess for eight years, and ask the Chancellor to write to the collectors ordering them to cease these distraints.
