Nature of request
Nicholas de Verdun states that he was made Keeper of the Peace in Ireland by the King's writ, but that the Justiciar of Ireland challenged his actions in this office against those who were against the peace, and would not acquit him but put him on mainprise, which he continued until the quindene of Easter last, when Nicholas was in England with the King. And because Nicholas feared that his mainpernors would be harmed by his absence, the King granted that he and his mainpernors would be safe in respect of this day, and the process sent before the King. He requests a writ from the Chancellor in accordance with this grant.
Nature of endorsement
John de Hothum recalls that the King, with the assent of his council, wills that, with regard to the day contained in the petition, the same Nicholas and his mainpernors should be preserved unharmed, and that the record and process held on the contents of the petition before the Justiciar of Ireland should be sent to the same King. And letters of the great seal on these things should be sent to the aforesaid Justiciar etc.
