Nature of request
Andrew, Prior of Takeley, states that on the advice of Robert Farnyng, he expelled one William Wychard of Takeley, bondsman, from a virgate of land in Takeley, for rebellion and withholding his customary services, which he did at the instigation of certain kinsmen of his in London. William brought an oyer et terminer against the Prior and his people, before John de Hildeslee and his companions at Stratford le Bow; and during this a great crowd of malefactors from London came to his lodging, seeking to behead him, and he only just escaped by crossing the Thames in a boat to Kent. William's kin have also corrupted the inquiry through bribery; and strange people have come into the country asking about him and his people; and they have killed his steward. He asks that the case might be brought before the King so that he might have justice.
