Petitioners
Roger de Okeourne, knight.
Name(s)
de Okeourne, Roger
Addressees
Chancellor.
Nature of request
Roger de Okeourne states that in the time of the late King he was forced to promise 100 marks in Chancery to Hugh le Despenser, Earl of Winchester, because he had been with Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, and that he had purchased a writ founded on the statute made at Westminster to deal with such debts, but that the bishops, earls and barons who, according to the statute, are to be summoned by the justices cannot be made to come. He asks that such a process might be ordained that the statute might take effect.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue before the justices where the process is pending.
Places mentioned
Westminster.
People mentioned
Hugh le Despenser, Earl of Winchester
[Edward II], King of England
Thomas [of Lancaster], Earl of Lancaster.
Note
CCR 1333-7 p.86 is dated 16 February 1333, and p.113 is dated 12 May 1333. Both respites are to be made while proceedings are taking place for annulling this debt, so the petition would seem to date from around this time.
