Note (Additional information about the record)
- John Mauger was sheriff of Herefordshire between February 1335 and January 1336, and the petition would seem to date from shortly after that. On 25 January 1337 the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are ordered not to put John Mauger in default for not appearing before them to render his account as sheriff, as he was detained in the Tower, and to receive his attorneys to render his account instead (CCR 1337-9 pp.99-100).
