Description
Petitioners
Robert de Coppedok (Copdock).
Name(s)
de Coppedok (Copdock), Robert
Addressees
Chancellor and council.
Nature of request
Robert de Coppedok states that he is the true patron of the church of Copdock, which is currently vacant, but that John, son of Nicholas de Twynstede, and Joan de Goldyngham disputed this and presented a John de Poley to the church; and because John de Poley could have no advantage from this presentation, he gave the Chancellor to understand that the King had the right of presentation, and had a presentation to the church from Chancery, and a quare impedit against Robert. He has also procured to delay the case and to prevent Robert's response from being received, so that Robert will lose his presentation through this delay, and his presentee his advancement. He requests a remedy, or that the plea might be submitted for a decision, and, because of the time that has passed since the church became vacant, he requests a nisi prius before a justice of the court so that he does not lose his presentation. Alternatively, he asks that the quare impedit and the King's presentation might be repealed, as happened in the case of the church of Northbury, when John, Bishop of Norwich, was Chancellor.
