Nature of request
Letter to the Chancellor from William de Cleytoun, who states that the King owed his lord, the late Earl of Pembroke, £100 annually as his fee as Keeper of the Forest on this side of the Trent, and that William was made his deputy in this office before the King, and received this fee for his costs and labour. The fee is in arrears, for both the Earl and William, from Easter last to the feast of St John. William requests a writ of liberate to the Treasurer and Chamberlains of the Exchequer to pay the £25 that are in arrears, and that the writ might be given to the bearer of this letter.
