Nature of request
Laurenz, who is heir of Isabel Wimpler, requests that a second inquisition of good loyal men from three wards of London be held between himself and Taylor concerning a tenement. Wimpler held for life the tenement in which his wife Isabel was heir, but sold it to Taylor illegally against Isabel's will. Taylor, knowing that Isabel would never willingly vacate the tenement, entered when Isabel lay on her deathbed and ousted her against her will, and she died 3 days later. Laurenz sued a writ against Taylor who procured Weylaund and Braose to give judgement, and they came into the guildhall with Taylor and when Laurenz requested an inquisition of good loyal men from three wards of the city according to the custom, they selected others procured by Taylor, that is, Hervey (his lawyer), Wlleward (his clerk) and Suffolk (who wore Taylor's robes), as a result of which the petitioner was allowed nothing.1)
