Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/280/13979
Date
[? c. 1334]
Description
Petitioners
Ramfre de Montpesat (Montpezat).
Name(s)
de Montpesat (Montpezat), Ramfre
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
St Macaire, [Guyenne, France]
Bordeaux, [Guyenne, France].
Nature of request
Montpesat requests that whereas in the King's service he has lost his father's castles, lands and rents worth £300 sterling yearly which the French have held for the last 8 years, without restitution or wages, that he be assigned £300 on the tax of St Macaire until his lands are returned or others assigned.
Nature of endorsement
The seneschal and constable of Bordeaux should be ordered to enquire and certify the King and it will be done as he wills.
Note
There are mentions of a Ramfre de Monpesat who may be this petitioner in c. 1289-95 (Roles Gascons, vol. II, 1311; Roles Gascons, vol. III, 3382/70 and 4060/9); but the hand of this petition seems too late. Its reference to the petitioner's lands having been in French hands for eight years most probably dates it to c. 1334, around eight years after the end of the War of St Sardos.
