Nature of request
The abbot of St Mary's York, whose predecessors have held in pure and perpetual alms since the abbey's foundation by Stephen, late duke of Brittany, requests that whereas he was summoned to Parliament because it was found in the roll of Parliament that his predecessors had been summoned since abbot Simon was first summoned in 1280, that he and his successors not be charged to come to Parliament by such summons since the acts of the predecessor should not be put on the successor.

It is enrolled in Chancery who are bound to come to Parliament, and therefore he should sue to the chancellor that justice be done to him.

Thomas de Moulton was abbot from 1331-59 so the petition must date to then, probably to c. 1345 since the petition mentions that Abbot Simon was summoned to Parliament 80 years previously.
