Nature of request
Andrew, who was baptised at the age of two in the time of Henry III and ordered by his letter to Bradenstoke where he remained during the lives of Henry III and Edward I, requests the King's letter so that his commands can be obeyed. After the King's coronation he was denied his maintenance but upon his request the King restored it, and he remained at the priory for five years until the prior and convent refused to keep him. He requested the King's grace at Waltham and was granted a letter of the privy seal, but they forced him to say, and they said, that he had taken silver and goblets from their cellar and sang mass as a Jew. For this indictment he was imprisoned in Salisbury, and the prior and convent asked and prayed the good people of the region to put him to death but they knew it had been done falsely and out of hate and released him as a good and loyal Christian and said so before Foxley. When he was released he asked for the maintenance which Henry III had granted and Edward I confirmed but was told to go as a beggar since he meant nothing to the King and Queen.
