Description
Petitioners
John de Rodele; William Servat; member of the company of Cadurci.
Name(s)
de Rodele; Servat, John; William
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Rodele, Servat and their fellow members of the company of Cadurci request remedy because in the 19th year of the King's father [1290-1] the abbot and convent of Pipewell entrusted various debts to them, which were seised into the King's hand because of the war between him and the King of France, during which time the King received £69 from the abbot and convent. The merchants sued in the Exchequer and were told to bring their writ of scire facias, contrary to the ancient usage and custom of the Exchequer, and the abbot answered that he should not answer to them because they were not then of the King's allegiance. They ask that the said £69 be allowed to the abbot and convent and paid to the merchants, that they be granted a fieri facias and a writ to attach the abbot and convent to answer to the King and petitioners regarding their false counsel which they made in the Exchequer of £132 6s 8d.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Pipewell, [Northamptonshire].
People mentioned

[Philip IV], King of France.
Note
Dated on the guard to c. 1312 because it was formerly attached to a letter of the King of France dated 30 August 1312 (AC 34/16).
