Nature of request
The abbot and convent of Ramsey request that whereas by St Edward's charter, confirmed by Henry III, no reigning King after him or their ministers could demand food, tax, pension, works or tributes from them and their church, but recently Pyrie purchased letters to have maintenance in their house, for which they were impleaded before the justices of the King's bench, that these justices be ordered by writ that in judging the plea they keep and hold the tenor of St Edward's charter.
Nature of endorsement
The charter should be examined in Chancery and a writ on the charter should be sent to the justices that the petitioners should not be impeached contrary to the tenure of their charter, and the words of the charter should be included and expressed in the writ.
