Nature of request
Norburgh, Trypet, Hurtyn and Cok, for themselves and all the merchants of England, recount that the present Kings of France and England have agreed to keep the peace made by their ancestors, and also that Philip IV and Edward I, in an agreement made on 20 May 1303, agreed that the people and merchants of both realms should be able to pass between their realms to trade. The King of England has kept all points of the agreement and has instructed everyone in his realm and other lands of his lordship to do the same, but the bailiff of the Countess of Boulogne and others, by virtue of orders apparently from the King of France or his court, prevent them from shipping horses to England. They therefore request that letters made by the Kings of England and France be examined, and also those of Philip IV and Edward I, and that letters be issued by the king to his prelates, members of his court and officials concerning this, as the English King has already done, and that his chancellor certify to the King of England that the treaty will be kept.
Nature of endorsement
